Faith and Begorrah! If it isn’t St. Paddy’s Day already; my, how March is moving right along.
Here’s an interesting little tidbit:
St. Patrick’s celebrations were originally religious festivals; up until the 1970s Irish law mandated that pubs be closed on St. Patrick’s Day. In 1995 the Irish government used St. Patrick’s day to drive tourism to Ireland.
I knew the day was originally a religious festival, but I had no idea that the pubs were closed until so late in the 20th century! Oh well, that’s one way to NOT wake up with a hangover on March 18th… (For nine other “little known facts” about the day, go here ).
As for me, I’m off to tend the corned beef and maybe I’ll tip a beer or ten two to the good saint!
Y’all have a great day!
Roux
